Family Learning Programmes

All parents want their children to do well at school and to succeed, however, many parents simply don't know where to start. Everything seems to have changed since your own schooldays, and you don't want to confuse your children by using different methods from those used by their teachers. Family Learning Programmes give parents the opportunity to find out how things are taught in their own child's school, as well as a chance to share ideas with other parents and develop their own skills. Family Learning Programmes can give parents and other family members skills and confidence to support their children’s learning at home through various everyday activities. Parents know their children best and we understand it is important to build on that knowledge. Since more than 85% of our parents are from Nepal, many of them know very little about the UK National Curriculum and so this is the main reason why Hornbill School has been running Family Learning Programme sessions for the last 11 years. If you are a Hornbill parent and worried about supporting your child's learning with phonics, reading, writing, maths or computing at home, you can attend these sessions and help yourself to gain confidence. Many parents have found these sessions very helpful and they keep asking us for further sessions.
