Hornbill School News

We have had a very busy and good week with HMI Ofsted Inspectors, Mr Chris Keeler and Mr Rob McKeown. They passed on their appreciation for the hospitality and for making them feel so welcome. Although the official report should be with us in a week, we are delighted to report that they have judged our school to be outstanding. This is a credit to the whole team who play a part in the life of the school and particularly the staff who clearly demonstrated their commitment and excellent skills. Our children are at the centre of all we do, and their talents and achievements shone through. The Inspectors described them as being an absolute ‘delight’.

We wrapped up our Book Week celebration with a Book Character Parade and a celebration assembly on Friday. Children and staff who had come in their best book character outfits, showed their catwalk skills during the parade. All of them looked great. The celebration assembly was also full of fun. The best part of the assembly was Miss Percy’s interview of three others teachers who wanted to marry her. This was an incredibly successful event.

PROBLEM SOLVING DAY: We had a very successful Maths Day today. Children were involved in many interesting and exciting maths challenges and activities. The day was wrapped up with a fantastic assembly on mental maths skills. Children from year 5 demonstrated their times table skills and other skils through a ball game. Well done to all and especially Mr Colin Hunter for organising the day and Mrs Northy for setting up lots of fun class challenges.

New ICT Equipments The ICT team from SCE has done a wonderful job in replacing all our old computers with new ones. The ICT suite got 15 new computers with some new software. Teachers also got new laptops with faster processors. They also installed a video conferencing utility in the library. This will enable us to have video conference with other partner schools and institutions. A huge investment which means ICT provisions are excellent for our children and families. (12 Feb 2009)

The turnout has been very encouraging in our recent FLPs with 23 parents at last week’s FLP for FS2 parents and 25 parents at this week’s FLP for KS1/KS2 parents. We have had excellent feedback from parents and requests for more FLP especially on Mathematics. Please, go into our  Virtual Learning Environment page for a new section on spelling and spelling games. You can log on with user name ‘guest’ and password as ‘password’.
