The Curriculum |
Hornbill School largely follows the National Curriculum requirements for England. However, this has been modified to take advantage of our fabulous location and our unique mix of cultures. We are continuously searching for ways to enrich and diversify opportunities for learning, promote host nation activities and draw on the wealth of expertise within our local community here in Brunei. Our curriculum is evolving dynamically. |
The core curriculum has been carefully constructed to emphasise the development of Language and Numeracy skills whilst also providing opportunities to develop Science, ICT, humanities, Arts and Sports. We provide opportunities for learning at first hand from the diverse local environment and have created topics linked to learning about the child’s home country. We vary our teaching styles to support learning and to develop independence, co-operative teamwork and leadership skills. |
The curriculum delivered is tailored to the individual child’s development, skills, abilities and strengths. Our four core subjects are English, Mathematics, Science and Information and Communication Technology. In addition our students also study Music, Art, Design Technology, History, Geography, RE and Physical Education. We have excellent facilities for the development of swimming skills from Foundation Stage to Year 6. Some of our children have been involved in international swimming events. Supplementary time is found develop Personal, Social and Health Education. Children can choose to participate in an extensive range of extra-curricular clubs. |
Our curriculum has been designed to stimulate intellectual curiosity and an appetite for learning. Our aim is to instil a love of learning which will continue throughout life and to prepare children for future challenges and experiences. Whilst we use English as the language to deliver the curriculum, support is provided by our specialist EAL teachers, where necessary. |
